I’m a Microsoft Windows fangirl
Thursday, September 11th, 2008Yeah, you heard me. I LIKE Windows. Sure, it does crash every now and then, and I sometimes yell at it (but let’s face it - I am also likely to yell at chairs and biscuits), but in the end, I love it. I have never considered another OS, and I am not likely to either. Maybe that doesn’t make me “hip” or “fresh” or “young” or all those other words that are thrown around in conversations and marketing ploys these days, but I am not going to hide out in the Windows closet for that reason.
And yes. I like Windows Vista as well. My laptop came with it pre-installed, and it was love at first sight. And let me tell you, Vista and I? It’s going GREAT.
This post is dedicated to my five most favourite features in Windows Vista (and no, I don’t care if OSX could do that years ago. Seriously. Give it up already.):
- Righ-click on .ttf files to install new fonts. It has made my life easier, I swear it.
- Windows Sidepanel. Or to be exact, the sticky notes application in the sidepanel. Again, making my life easier.
- The start menu search function. To be fair, I don’t remember how the XP search function was, but the one in Vista, well… It makes my life easier. I know, I know. Broken record. It really does make searching a lot easier though, you gotta admit as much.
- Here’s one thing that isn’t making my life easier (but it’s not making it harder either): The look of Vista. It looks sweet. I especially love the see-through title bars that I have no idea what are called. You know, the bar where the name of the program/webpage/whatever is. My only regret is that the see-throughness is only there when the window isn’t maximised.
- The built-in Windows Media Center. One day it just popped up and told me that “hey, I found something cool! It’s the Xbox 360 - wanna connect to it, do ya, do ya?”. I still need to figure out just how to get the Xbox to play DivX files, but that’s no Vista’s fault (although it’s still a Microsoft product. Please, developers, make that easier, ‘kay?).
And there you have it. While I’m in the confessional here, you should also know that I am religious, I watch America’s Next Top Model and enjoy it, I still listen to the Backstreet Boys, and I don’t vote for the red/greens. Kthxbi.
